After receiving his doctor of dental surgery degree from the New York College of Dentistry in 1987, Glenn J. Marie, DDS, opened his own practice, Dentistry for Children, in Staten Island, New York. In addition to pediatric dentistry, the practice provides dental services to patients of all ages with special needs. To keep abreast of developments in his field, Glenn J. Marie, DDS, maintains a membership in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) advocates for the oral health of children. The professional association for pediatric dentists has 10,000 members who specialize in providing dental treatment for children, young adults, and individuals with special needs.

Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children (HSHC) is the AAPD’s charitable foundation. HSHC issues grants to help fund initiatives aimed at providing dental care to children and families in need. Since 2010 HSHC has awarded over 4 million dollars across 29 states and the District of Columbia, helping over 300,000 children receive access to dental care.

A recent beneficiary of the HSHC foundation was the LSU Health New Orleans After-Hours Pediatric Dental Clinic. The clinic is staffed by dental students and pediatric dental residents from the LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry, working under faculty supervision. It provides discounted dental care for low-income families two evenings and one Saturday per month.
